History of NILT

To meet the requirements of leather industry in terms of semi-skilled, skilled, technical and managerial human resource, an institute of international standard was required during 90s. Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) representative body of leather industry took the initiative and submitted a proposal to Export Promotion Bureau (EPB). Government of Pakistan realized the need and National Institute of Leather Technology (NILT) was established by PTA with financial support from EPB now Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) in 1998. NILT is managed by leading businessman, industrialists, and technologists of Pakistan leather industry.

NILT is registered with education department government of Sind and affiliated with Sind Board of Technical Education for award of Diploma and Certificate courses in leather technology.

NILT started its operations in 1998 with commencement of Two year diploma and One year certificate course in leather technology. Over the years, 10 batches of Two year Diploma course have graduated and are serving the leather industry in prominent positions. In 2007 three year Diploma Associate Engineer (DAE) – Leather Technology was introduced based on market needs. So far 7 batches have been inducted, out of which of 4 have passed out and 3 are in progress.

NILT is registered with education & literacy department, govt. of Sind for conduct of its courses. NILT is affiliated with Sind Board of Technical Education (SBTE) for award of DAE & Diploma courses in Leather.

NILT College of Science & Commerce is affiliated with Board of Intermediate Education (BIEK) for conduct of H.S.C. Science & Commerce courses.

NILT DAE Course is designed and approved by National Institute of Science & Technology Education (NISTE), Islamabad. Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with University of Northampton, U.K. for training of students and faculty.
